Maemo and N900 Buzz Around Internet

Maemo and N900 certainly have sparked traffic, posts, comments, feedback, opinions etc around Internet in recent days far more than ever in Maemo’s history. This is not a big surprise as both the OS and device were big success in the Nokia World 2009 and looks like also caught some techies, analysts and reporters by surprise – positive surprise from Nokia which we haven’t seem too much in the past year or more.
Google trend for ‘maemo’ from past 5 years, this covers whole public life of Maemo.

To put things in perspective with Symbian Google Trends reveals following, 37.5 vs. 1 ratio for Symbian vs. Maemo. I will revisit this topic in December 2009 and we will see where the ratio then lies. I guess it will be close to each other but not dramatically, let’s then guess it is 30x difference over 5 years.

So in about past week ‘maemo’ keyword trend has seen 4-5x more traffic on Google services. Clearly interest has been higher than ever in the maemo history and trend is still clearly rising as news and impact of these announcements spreads deeper into bowels if Internet.
Twitter has also seen ‘maemo’ keyword trend rise from close to zero to something, not huge but clear indication still that gathering interest on tweets too. Below simple graph of ‘maemo’ from past 90 days.

Device wise N97 still and very much expected is on top of N900. In the past 30 days ratio is 1.0 for N97 and 0.14 for N900 but in the past week it is more like 40% N900 and 60% N97. Once N900 is actually available for immediate purchase (now for pre-order in several countries) I expect N900 to be close to N97 mentions on the Internet. Of course N97 is supported by N97 Mini that Nokia pushes surprisingly hard instead of lack luster push for N900.

I also did plain Google searches for ‘maemo’ and ‘n900′ and got following number of hits. Maemo got about 2,750,000 hits from plain simple google search where as ‘n900′ got 4,030,000 hits. Thus again as expected device gets more hits than its operating system since device news and articles are simply more mainstream than posts etc about its OS.
Finally we take a look at web site traffic trend towards maemo.org site thru Alexa.com statistics. These are not very reliable but still show the overall trend.

I will revisit most of these statistics during December so it will be interesting to see then how far Maemo and N900 have then risen or dropped on these figures.
